CMA-CGM Partnership on Green Energy for better education – Lighting up Kenya’s Future
Project Overview
KWAHO is partnering CMA-CGM to:
- Previously to Improve access to nutritious foods through school gardens and to Increase access to water by school going children through the installation of rainwater harvesting facilities.
- In 2025, the core intervention was on solar lighting for P.K Primary school.
Found in Maragwa sub county of Murang’a County, Peter Kariuki Primary School has been the at the center of KWAHO and CMA-CGMs partnership, the school also has one of the highest populations within the area, with over 1776 students. Of which 824 are girls and 952 boys. The teachers are 46 (12 Male, 34 Female) in number. KWAHO has over the last 2 years partnered with CMA-CGM to transform the lives of school going children through water access, nutrition and lighting programmes.
In 2015 KWAHO partnered with CMA-CGM in a programme dubbed “lighting up the future” to install solar panels, enough to power the entire school – a total of 35 classrooms and offices were fitted with solar accessories, including back up to ensure 27/7 lighting of the school to aid student learning at night and the early hours, solar power has also reduced the power bills for the school, allowing them to redirect the funds to other needs within the school.
