Sustainable & Inclusive WASH for Unserved & Underserved Communities (SI – WASH)
The SI-WASH program is funded by Water1st International and is aimed at delivering piped water solutions and safely managed sanitation to rural women in the rural, Seme sub county of Kisumu County-
The project has 4 main outcome areas namely:
- Sustainably deliver access to and use of safe drinking water in unserved and underserved areas
- Enhance/Improve access to and use of sanitation facilities
- Enhance sustainable hygiene behaviors
- Community engagement, governance and capacity building

Magwako Water Project
Project launched in 2023
Water Infrastructure
- Drilled well with a solar-powered submersible pump
- 58,000L- elevated storage tank
- Kms of pipe conveying water from the well to the tank and to homes
- Metered household water connections (131 households connected to date)
- Water connections installed at Magwako School
Sanitation
- Community sanitation – Pour-flush toilets for every home (143 completed)
- Institutional sanitation – Toilets installed at Magwako School
Equity & Impact
- 20 vulnerable households receive free water connection and toilet, reduced water tariff
Goal by end of 2026:
- Management committee maintains 24/7 water supply throughout the community 90% loan repayment and water bill payment
Nyatigo Project
Water Infrastructure
- Project launched in 2024
- Drilled well with a submersible pump Equipped with both solar and fuel generator to power pump day and night.
- 53,000-Litres elevated storage tank
- Additional 25,000-Liters ground-level tank to increase storage and reduce pressure
- 4 miles of buried pipeline from well to tanks to households
- Metered household water connections (121 households connected to date)
- Water connection at Nyatigo Primary School
Sanitation
- Pour-flush toilets for every home (160 completed)
- Toilets installed at Nyatigo Primary School
Equity & Impact
- 10 vulnerable households receiving targeted support
Goal by end of 2026:
- 200 additional household water connections 30 more household toilets
Nyaburu Charo Water Project 2020
- 221 Households to be reached with 24/7 water access
- Sanitation marketing for enhanced access to safely managed sanitation to 221 Households

- BCC at institutional and community levels
- 2 schools (Nyatigo and Magwako) engaged in hygiene promotion interventions
