Solar Water Disinfection project (SODIS) propagates the use of a simple water treatment technology that can be used at household level. The Project aims at educating the community on water purification methods to improves the microbiological quality of drinking water with solar radiation at almost zero investment and maintenance costs and at the same time integrating of the method with HWTS, WASH and health projects.
The SODIS Project in Kibera and Mukuru kwa Njenga slums Targeted: 20‘000 households each in a Project Duration 0f one year 1 year (2004/05). It involved the Facilitation of provision of Safe Water and environmental sanitation (WES) for three schools, WES activities in the villages, Environmental Management through Youth Afya (Health) group, Water quality treatment using SODIS (HWTT) and Hygiene promotion to the target groups

- 11 SODIS promoters trained

- 78‘000 bottles in use
- all water analysis free of E.coli
